Autism-Friendly & Sensory-Friendly Haircuts, At Home

A calm, unhurried haircut in a familiar room — no waiting room, no shop noise, no pressure to sit still for a stranger on a stranger's schedule.

A barbershop is a lot: a waiting room, unfamiliar noise from other stations, a stranger's chair, a next client waiting behind you. For an autistic or sensory-sensitive client of any age, that alone can make a haircut harder than the haircut itself needs to be.

At home, most of that disappears. The room is already familiar. There's no line, no clock, and no one else's appointment pushing yours along. We take a calm, unhurried approach — no pressure to sit still in an unfamiliar chair — and work wherever the person is most comfortable: a couch, a favorite chair, wherever helps.

If there are specific things that make a difference — clipper noise, touch around the ears or neck, a preference for scissors over clippers, or needing to pause partway through — let us know before the visit and we'll plan around it. None of this is unusual; it's most of what a calmer, at-home visit is for.

This isn't limited to kids. We work with autistic and sensory-sensitive clients of any age, including adults who find a standard shop environment overwhelming.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accommodate clients with autism or sensory sensitivities?

Yes, at any age. We take a calm, unhurried approach with no pressure to sit still in an unfamiliar shop chair, and can work wherever the client is most comfortable — a couch, a favorite chair, wherever helps. Let us know ahead of time about any sensory preferences so we can plan the visit accordingly.

Why does an at-home haircut help with sensory sensitivities?

A shop means a waiting room, unfamiliar noise from other stations, and a stranger's chair on a stranger's schedule. At home, none of that is there — just a familiar room, a familiar routine, and no one waiting behind you.

Can we take breaks or stop partway through if needed?

Yes. There's no schedule pressure from a next client waiting, so we can pause, slow down, or split the cut into stages if that works better for the person getting it.

Can I tell you about specific sensory preferences before the visit?

Yes, and it helps to. Let us know ahead of time about things like clipper noise, touch around the ears or neck, or a preference for scissors over clippers, and we'll plan the visit around it.

Is this only for kids?

No. We work with autistic and sensory-sensitive clients of any age, from kids to adults.
